When I started this blog, I knew that I wanted to make money from it. I couldn’t afford any other way, my budget was stretched to the max and if I was going to have any hobby, it had to be a paying one. That’s the only way it was going to be worth my time.
I had no idea what I was doing though.
This was my first monetized blog, and I am not a
In fact, my husband is the computer genius in the relationship and he hasn’t helped me do a single thing with this blog. Per my choice.
I researched every little thing until my eyes were blurry and spent all day on the computer perfecting everything.
I know I want a successful blog and I know what I want to write about, and my passion and drive have kept me going through it all.
Before purchasing my domain name, or choosing a self-hosted website for my blog, I researched what other successful bloggers were doing.
It seems like the majority favored Bluehost, while some chose other platforms.
Then there were some bloggers who put out warnings to pick a strong platform from the beginning because when their websites took off and traffic increased, the platforms they had chosen couldn’t hold up to the work and they had to transfer everything over to Bluehost.
Well, that sold me.
I chose Bluehost as my blogs self-hosted platform and never looked back.
So far, it’s been amazing and the customer service has been great. I couldn’t ask for more.
So, I’m going to explain how to start a blog using Bluehost as a self-host platform.
How to Start a Successful Money Earning Blog
First, Go to Bluehost using this link and click “get started now.”
Select your plan, I personally chose the cheapest and most basic package that they had but have plans of upgrading as my blog gets more traffic (and I can afford it.)

So, whichever you choose, choose the one you feel is right for you.
The plans start as low as $2.95 a month and include a professional email using the domain name of your site [email protected].
Now you’ll be asked to provide a domain name for your blog.

This is the URL and what people will by typing when they want to go to your site.
You can make it whatever you want, but I do recommend making it easy to remember and catchy so it can be remembered by your audience more.
The next page is simply asking you to fill out your account information.

Easy Peasy.
Confirm your package information is correct.
Package Extras, I left them all checked when I made my website because I didn’t know better and honestly, they all sound important.

SiteLock Security? Yes, Please. Don’t know what it does but I am ALL FOR security features.
Once you’ve submitted payment for Bluehost, you are good to go.
Now set up a password, because that’s an important step.
After entering a password, Bluehost will guide you through the steps to set up a blog with WordPress.
Thankfully, Bluehost makes it incredibly easy to download and work with WordPress, and its FREE.
So follow the prompt given and download WordPress.
Choose a theme, any theme.
You can stare at these options forever and really put thought into it, or you can just select something knowing you can change it later.
Completely up to you.
It’s not uncommon for your vision for the blog to change as you start developing it.
Once a theme is selected…
You’re a blog owner!
Now it’s time to fill it with your content.
You can make blog posts by clicking on the word “Posts” on the left-hand sidebar of the screen, or make pages by clicking “Pages” on that same sidebar.
I recommend starting with your contact page and your “about you” page since those are what people are often drawn to when exploring a new blog.
Take a few days to research and explore your sidebar, and you’ll be an expert in no time.
Congratulations on setting up your own blog, that’s so exciting!
