I don’t know about you, but as a SAHM I have been trying my hardest to find spare cash I can make from the couch. Side hustles are a great way to do just that, but many of them require some form of experience, leaving the home or having the right connections. Freelance writing is a side hustle you can do from anywhere and without ANY experience!
Growing up, I had a passion for writing.
In middle school I had binge watched the TV show Gilmore Girls so many times that I actually wanted to be Rory Gilmore.
I thought being a newspaper journalist would be the perfect job for me and I even considered joining the Coast Guards so that I could become a newspaper journalist for them, and get a free education.
That dream died after I read several articles on how printed newspapers were dying. I was still so inexperienced with computers that I couldn’t fathom writing anything online. *I laugh a little now as I think back on it.
During career day in High School, I was singled from the class and asked what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I nervously said “a writer” and instantly, classmates looked at me like I grew another head. Whether they were staring at me because I was a silent introvert speaking out, or because my dream was so different than theirs, I will never know.
It wasn’t until just last year that I decided to give blogging a shot.
Until then I had no idea how SEO, content writing, research or any of it was done. Now thanks to several eBooks and eCourses I feel I’m close to expert level on some subjects.
You should hear me ramble on about some topics, it’d make your eyes glaze over and put you in a deep sleep.
While I love blogging, this blog was started to make me money. Unfortunately, it has yet to bring me a decent income.
My husband made a mobile phone game to help give us a source of passive income. But I wanted to take a more direct approach and physically do something to make money.
I wanted to make money doing something that I loved
I finally looked at my Pinterest board full of side hustle ideas and saw all of the ideas waiting there for me. That’s when I really took a good look at the cover of one promoting “freelance writing.”
I had a vague idea of what freelance writing since I had seen it mentioned several times from other bloggers.
But until then I hadn’t really given it much of a thought. It sounded pretty great, and I really do enjoy writing, so it was worth a shot.
But where do I begin?
What do I do?
How do I find a job and stand out amongst the several hundred other applicants?
Then I discovered the Freelance to 5k course
Anyone who knows me knows that I don’t try to sell a product that I haven’t personally tried myself. Why would I try to offer you something that I don’t have experience with? It makes no sense.
I like knowing that I can give my personal perspective on a product, as well as answer questions and help you. I also feel that it gives me better credibility and a higher level of trustworthiness. Two things I personally like in my bloggers.
Anyways, back to this amazing course and how it helped me make close to $150 in two days.
If you’re looking to get started in freelance writing, this course is great!
It walks you through EVERYTHING that you need to know to become a successful freelance writer. The man who made it, Michael, is such a great motivational speaker in the videos that you feel really confident in your abilities by the end of it.
This course is perfect for entry-level writers, someone working a 9-5 and looking for additional side income or the stay at home parent or blogger wanting to help bring in more money.
The course is about 90% videos where he’s talking to you as he shows you a few powerpoint slides. Which is great for SAHM’s or bloggers who can easily lend an ear, and listen to the content while doing other things.
I listened to a lot of the videos as I was preparing dinner or washing dishes.
All of the content was easily digestible, organized and thorough. Really, really thorough.
He talked about how you can find a profitable writing niche, set and achieve goals. Tips for getting over your fears about writing and gave several motivational points to help you gain more confidence.
He discussed how to create a freelance website and portfolio and optimizing your social media to target the right clients. Plus where to find the high-paying clients.
Sharing templates and screenshots of things that have personally worked for him. Which took out a lot of the guesswork for me since I used to fail at pitches 99% of the time.
About midway through the course, I was so motivated and driven to succeed with freelance writing that I had sent out several pitches to clients. By the end of the course, I had sent out about 3 times that many.
Then I started getting replies
Shortly after that, I was hired to do a blog article for something that is not my niche. But the client was willing to work with me because of my budgeting and saving money niche. He felt it could help with future work if we developed a long-term contract out of the deal.
When that article was done, he sent another, and then another.
Then I landed a ghostwriting gig for a parenting blog. 5 more articles, just like that. And more job responses kept coming.
Michael was right when he said all you need is to land that first one and the rest would fall into place. It was like a domino effect all these jobs and clients happened within 2 days.
I credit all of my results to the Freelance to 5k course
I don’t think I have ever taken such a thorough A to Z course before. He literally walks you through everything and does everything except put an actual client in your hand.
If you want to get into freelance writing, this is the best investment you can make to ensure you get off to an excellent start. You could earn the cost back in no time.
A month ago, freelance writing was just an idea.
Today, it has brought me even more money (with more clients and jobs being offered to me almost daily!) I can’t speak highly enough about this course, I truly believe in it and recommend it.
